During his brief stay as Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, Rashid has been credited for not only energizing research and advocacy at the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone but for also providing leadership in the production of six thematic reports on various human rights issues within one year -( business and human rights report, disability rights report, children’s rights report, baseline survey on human rights and business, complaint handling manual for National Commission for Persons with Disabilities and Special Elections report and Newsletter 2018).

Also, Mr Dumbuya is a reputable international human rights lawyer by profession, a member of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, an Associate lecturer at the Department of Law, Fourah Bay College University of Sierra Leone as well as a Rights advocate and Public Defender.

Rashid holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree from Fourah Bay College University of Sierra Leone as well as an LLM Degree in International Human Rights Law from the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, South Africa and an LLM Degree in Petroleum Law and Policy (oil &gas/energy law) from the University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom.

He obtained distinction results in both of his masters thesis at the University of Pretoria and the University of Dundee and has been recently certified as FELLOW by the Centre for Jurisprudence and Constitutional Studies, Kabarak University School of Law, Republic of Kenya.

Rashid has strong expertise in Environmental impact Assessment Projects, Strategic impact and Public interest Litigations, Human Rights and the Extractive Industries, Project Planning Development and Research, advocacy on Juvenile Justice, women and prisoners’ rights, drafting, resource mobilization and networking.

His experiences also covers capacity building and development of Civil Society Organizations, the youth and children as well as the Media and Press Freedom.

Rashid further holds several post graduate certificates in key fields like International law, Disability Rights, Intellectual Property Rights, Police Oversight and Accountability in Africa, Justiciability of Socio-economic rights in Africa, Sexual Minority Rights etc.

He has further participated in international human rights debates, lectures and presentations in the British House of Parliament, Harvard University, the University of Mauritius and the EUIC’s Global Classroom in Venice, Italy.

Apart from the African Achievers Awards that was given to him yesterday at the Golden Tulip Hotel by the African Achievers Awards Governing body, Mr Dumbuya has been a recipient of several prestigious international awards including the University of Dundee International student Volunteer Awards, the Jill Jacot awards granted by the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, the Commonwealth Scholarship Awards, the Centre for Human Rights schorlaship awards and the UK Parliamentary Human rights and the Modern Day Commonwealth certificate awards to name but a few.

Having worked with both national and international organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme, the UN Special Court for Sierra Leone, the Equal Opportunities Commission of Mauritius, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, the UN Sustainable Energy for all Forum in New York, the Business and Human Rights Forum in Switzerland and also as State Prosecutor for the Anti- Corruption Commission of Sierra Leone, Rashid’s legal research and human rights advocacy skills have been greatly enhanced.

Mr Dumbuya has also published several articles and publications on law and human rights in international websites and peer- reviewed journals across the world and has undertaken extensive research in countries like Botswana, Mauritius, Italy and the UK.

At the new Law Firm and Christian Lawyers Centre, Rashid is currently leading a team of distinguished lawyers, law students and human rights activists both from Sierra Leone and abroad in advancing human rights advocacy, public interest litigations, civil and criminal law, oil and gas contract negotiations, legal and policy reforms and supporting the religious community and vulnerable groups through the provision of specialized legal services.
